Coaching
The 8 week Corporate 8s training programme has been developed by Dr Charlie Simpson. Charlie is a senior lecturer of Sports Science at Oxford Brookes University, and the Reading RC Women's High Performance Squad coach.
All Corporate 8s coaches are all ARA qualified, and your crew will be assigned an exclusive coach for the duration of the programme. We also have a team of experienced rowers and coxes to assist you with training and technique.
Your Training Programme
The programme begins in July with an introductory session to the Rowing Club, where your coach will explain the basic technique of rowing, get you started on the rowing machines, and show you the club facilities and boat house.
The first 4 weeks of initial land training are designed to improve your basic fitness for rowing and develop your technique and timing on the erg (rowing machine).
For useful tips on rowing technique, visit Inverness Rowing Club's Strokecycles page.
Water Training
In week 5, the fun starts! Your crew will have one water session each week, (at a time convenient to you) for 4 weeks. Your coach and cox will introduce you to the skills needed to get your boat moving successfully on the water. You will already have developed a base level of fitness, and now focus on technique, timing, and most importantly, teamwork.
Regatta Day
The Corporate 8s Regatta is held on a Saturday afternoon, in early September. The course is 500m, and regulated by official ARA umpires. Each race has a maximum of 2 crews. The first round of races will determine your crew's ranking. These are followed by semi-finals and finals, to compete for the Corporate 8s Challenge trophy, and runner up position.
Silver tankards are awarded to the winning crew, with plaques for the crew in 2nd place. In the evening is the prize giving ceremony, with complementary food and refreshment for all competitors.
Colleagues, friends and family are welcome throughout the event.
