The Club House
The clubhouse was completed in 1989, and a project is currently in motion to further expand the building. The ground level is taken up by a large boat racking space, with an ergo room, weights room, changing facilities, a fully fitted kitchen, function room and bar on the top floor. Further boat racking is available in the new compound built this year at the back of the boathouse.
Parking is usually available in the Promenade Car Park by the club, and bikes may be securely locked to the rail along the side of the club house.
The Reading Stretch
RRC is lucky to be located on one of the best stretches of the River Thames for rowing. We have access to a full 6k of scenic river from Reading Bridge to Purley, which we share with Reading University Boat Club. We also organise Reading Small Boats each year, and contribute to the running of Reading Amateur Regatta.

Our Fleet
The 3 bays of the club house and the new compound are home to a large number of boats, for various abilities and weights of oarsmen and oarswomen, and several coaching launches. Some of the top boats are Captain’s Permission Only, to be used by top racing crews or experienced rowers and coxes. If in doubt, consult with your Vice-Captain or Club Captain.
We have:
- 8 Eights (3 men’s, 3 women’s, 2 vets’). The men’s top 8+ is an Empacher, and the women’s is a Stampfli, both less than 10 years old and in excellent condition
- 21 Fours/Quads, for various weights and abilities, from the aptly-named Skinny Dippin’ for lightweight women to the equally aptly-named reserve boat for the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games men’s coxless 4 – Blue the Budget!
- 14 Pairs/Doubles, ranging from 57.5kg to 92kg, over half of them less than 5 years old
- 17 Singles, a large number by current club standards and most of them available to all members
Land Training Facilities
The ergo room contains 12 Concept II ergos, including 4 Concept II Model D ergos with PM4 monitors recently purchased after the British Indoor Rowing Championships 2009. A RowPerfect is also available.
In the weights room, a variety of weight machines and free weights are available, and club members have unlimited use of these facilities as part of their membership fee.
